A night blaze erupted in the Kern River mountains eight to ten miles beyond Camp 4. The fire spreads rapidly through heavy timber and ground feed, threatening heavier timber in the higher terrain. Edison observers note potential vast damage if unchecked. The region remains uninhabited.
A blaze starting yesterday near Kimberlina swept over 150000 to 200000 acres of grazing land and sheep camps, reaching Willow Springs before back fires and a large firefighting effort contained it by 8:30 PM. Losses include vast grazing land valued at 40 to 130 per section and numerous camps, with W L Smith Bertrand Pete Lambert and stock holders named among principal losers. No ranch buildings were destroyed. firefighters from Granite Station Linn's Valley and Greenhorn Mountain aided the effort.
At three o clock this afternoon Miss Mabel Crosland holds a commanding lead in the Goddess of Liberty contest with about six hundred votes ahead of Miss Diamond Baker. Mrs. T. W. Helm and Mrs. A. C. Silver follow closely as heavy voting continues.
The steam schooner Santa Barbara, owned by J. R. Hanity Company, broke her propeller shaft off Point Reyes yesterday afternoon and lies disabled off the point. Tugs have been sent to repair. She departed San Francisco Saturday for Seattle with passengers and freight.

Real estate agents unite to force the Land Company to sell irrigable holdings near Bakersfield at about 60 dollars an acre with ¼ down and three year payments. A committee will confer with company officials to secure land for sale by fall, aiming for two sections close to Bakersfield. No definite tract yet, but negotiations proceed as officials weigh the plan.
A Berenda special reports two Yosemite Stage Company stages were robbed near Zigzag by the bandit Black Kid, sixteen passengers robbed and held up for an hour. Sheriff Jones dispatched from Barenda. Also New York notes: Suburban Handicap at Sheepshead Bay won by Nealon with Montgomery second and Beacon Light third, amid 17 starters for a $20,000 purse.
The Monterey Fresno and Eastern Railway asks capitalist David Jacks for a 100 foot right of way over 21 miles from Salinas River to Tyler Street Monterey. Jacks seeks 125000 dollars for about 56 acres, about two thousand per acre, three times the company value. A condemnation lawsuit is expected within days.
At The Hague on June 20 the peace conference delegations selected members for the four general commissions created yesterday. At 4 o'clock the four presidents and M Liedoff met and set the meeting days for the commissions.
Nat Solomon went to the courthouse expecting the David Davis diamond theft trial to be tomorrow, only to learn the trial is set for the twentieth. The jeweler realized he was a day behind time as he inquired about the case involving diamonds valued at thousands of dollars from the firm.
San Francisco June 20 A settlement ends the South San Francisco Electric Railway carmen strike. Patrick Calhoun agrees to pay workers the prestrike wages while a broader strike against United Railroads remains unsettled. United Railroads expands service on several routes, with car counts near prestrike levels and higher receipts.
Boise, Idaho, June 20. The jury in Haywood murder trial heard excerpts from the Miners Magazine denouncing Frank Steunenberg and Western Federation leaders. Senator Borah read "The Passing of Steunenberg" from the January 1901 issue, portraying Steunenberg as corrupt and a traitor.
