The People v Alfred W Hulse ended with a second degree murder verdict after a long jury deliberation. Juror Murphy shifted from not guilty to murder in the second degree, prompting a week to prepare for sentencing. District Attorney J W P Laird led a thorough prosecution aided by Thomas Scott and Sheriff Kellys team.
From St Petersburg dated June 18 details report about eleven hundred wounded and two thousand total Russian casualties at the battle of Vafangon. Staklelb ers force moves north, the railway unable to transport more than a few thousand. Japanese superiority in artillery noted with over 200 guns.
The court indicated the strongest prosecution hope rested on proof the defendant aided and abetted outlaw James McKinney. If jurors believe McKinney was a Tulare County and Arizona murderer fleeing justice, harbored him, aided him in a room, and furnished guns, and that McKinney killed officer William E. Tibbet, then the defendant is guilty of murder as charged.
