Haywood case postponed to term in Caldwell
Harry Orchard, charged with murder in the Steunenberg killings, was brought to Caldwell for a court appearance as the Haywood case at Boise was adjourned today. Owens River Aqueduct Work to Begin in Sixty Days
The Los Angeles Times reports that within about sixty days construction on the Owens River aqueduct to Los Angeles will start. Work begins at both ends with a 40 by 20 foot hull built in sections by engineer Mulholland, assembled in Owens Valley on water, powered by electric pumps and motors. Bids for 8000 feet of pipe for Haiwee sluicing go out June 22, while tunnel portals at Fairmont and San Francisquito Canyon will be opened to test rock and gather data for possible tunnel contracting. About 120 workers and seventy field assistants are engaged in location work and route planning, with Southern Pacific surveying a Mojave to Keeler line and Red Rock Canyon routes under consideration.
