In Monterey Mexico General Bernardo Reyes is unanimously elected governor of Nuevo Leon. Elsewhere in the West heavy flooding endangers Heppner Oregon with extensive property damage and uncertain casualty totals. Rescue crews report many missing and a temporary shelter and funds are urged.
Vienna reports cordial telegrams between Emperor Francis Joseph and King Peter, with the monarch denouncing assassins. Peter, elected by the senate and skupshtina, pledges to restore peace and happiness to Serbia while receiving Austria's support and friendship for a long, stable reign.
New York June 17 ten thousand employees of the Geo Fuller Construction Company were discharged by order of the company ending the lockout in the building trades. Jennie Fox, Hulse’s consort and key prosecution witness, retracts earlier sworn statements about McKinney and the shooting of Officers Packard and Tibbet. She says McKinney acted alone, vows to testify in Superior Court to exonerate Hulse, and claims perjury was driven by fear and peril.
Sacramento June 17 Governor Pardee said he had heard rumor of possible vice presidential candidacy. He noted he is too busy with current administration to consider 1904 running mate questions and declined comment on future reelection.
