Former Judge Campbell, mayor’s chief counsel, moved for bail claiming public duties. Judge Dunne denied the application, stating the convict must remain in County Jail. Sheriff O’Neill warned to observe strict custody.
San Francisco June 14. District Attorney Langdon announces plans to remove Mayor Schmitz via a special board action and appoint a temporary mayor to serve until January 1908. Gallagher would become acting mayor, with resignations and replacements to follow, targeting several top officials for removal. Taft remains on a westward trip, staying in place today for rest.
In San Francisco on June 14 the district attorney opposed bail and argued the mayor need not attend official duties. The affidavit implies a plan by graft investigators and a subservient Board of Supervisors to oust Schmitz and install a reform man as mayor.
St. Paul report states Secretary Taft is much better after a sudden illness at Fort Snelling. He told doctors last night marked the first restful night in three weeks.

St Petersburg June 16 The second Russian parliament will be dissolved tonight by imperial edict after Stolypin ultimatum. No consideration given to suspending 55 Social Democrats charged with conspiring against the regime. City thick with troops as guard regiments depart Krasnoye-Selo for Petersburg and industrial centers brace for possible railroad strikes. Rail stations guarded, cavalry and armored units in readiness. reserves confined to barracks.
Weather disaster isolates the Black Hills as heavy rain and hail wash out rail lines and telegraph wires. At least three deaths are reported including Mrs. Anderson and two children in St Agebar Gulch. Dozens of railroad bridges damaged, roads washed out, hindering recovery and communication.
Boise, June 15. The prosecution won admission of a telegram from Steve Adams to Haywood and testimony by Detective Pender. The state also admitted six drafts Haywood sent to Jack Simpkins, dating 1904-1906, framed around the Steunenberg killing. Fragments of a pistol device linked to the Cripple Creek strike era were shown, prompting discussion of militia actions under martial law. Peabody family observers watched as plumber Charles T. Reach testified making the Peabody bomb casing. Miss Cora May Peabody testified to seeing two men near her carriage. Dr. A. W. McIntosh leaves town tonight for Berkeley then camping trips, with return in September.
