Washington will host the peace conference after both governments asked for the city. Secretary Loeb announced by presidential directive that Washington is the meeting place. If heat becomes uncomfortable, organizers may adjourn to a northern summer resort until cooler weather.
Washington reports that Russia and Japan will hold peace negotiations in the U S capital. Japan refuses to travel to Europe and Russia agrees to Washington as a venue. Possible terms include Korea under Japanese protection, Manchuria returned to China, and limited indemnity.
Bakersfield shoppers are invited to secure seasonable suits and home goods at prices well below retail. About a hundred suits in two and three style lines offer economy and quality, with five dollar suits and refrigerators, hammocks priced mid to low range, highlighting value in a crowded sale.
