Fort Monroe Under Fire In Early Coastal Assault

Fort Monroe in Virginia faced its first forceful attack at 1 AM as Admiral Dickin's squadron moved in an arch between Capes Henry and Charles. London report says the German steamer Tetarton was sunk on May 30 by a Russian auxiliary cruiser. It sailed from Otaru Japan to Tien Tsin with railroad ties. The Tetarton, owned by Flensburg Steam Shipping, carried contraband of war and its crew was landed at Batavia Java.
