A Stockton refinery with Eastern capital, linked to Henry Frick, is reported to process Kern County oil. The project may involve 120,000 barrels for September and contracts for 3,000,000 more later, with pipelines to Firebaugh and tide-water to cut rail tariffs. Local papers note improved outlook for Kern producers as lines advance.
Progress on several Bakersfield structures continues with plans for a new producer's bank building to be adopted and bids called. The Scribner losch Galtes building progresses under Contractor Hickox and will host a San Francisco hotel operator. Conklin store room interiors advance, Hochheimer & Co. to occupy adjoining space, and a corner shop will house an old supply house. The Californian building foundation is set with brickwork to begin next week, targeting completion in about sixty days. The White building on eighteenth street advances with heating installed and second floor walls rising. Armory on H street near completion with interior carpentry soon. Episcopal church contract not yet let, but finances improve for minimal delays. Board of education to meet to advertise bids for Railroad avenue schoolhouse.
Retail Clerks Union No 137 plans final arrangements to back an early closing campaign. Cards will urge stores to close at 6 pm from Monday June 17 and a parade may target nonclosing shops. Clerks seek support from organized labor and oil field and railroad workers and will issue circulars to enlist assistance.
Mr. Leroy Peyton and Miss Aura Brown, well known in Bakersfield, announce their approaching marriage at St. Pauls Church on Wednesday evening June 26 at 830. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo E Brown and a Korn county girl with wide friends. Peyton is a White Star Laundry proprietor and active local businessman.
