Evidence in Loomis Case Supports Defendant

In Washington on June 12 before Taft left for West Point a hearing in the Bowen Loomis inquiry took place. Clyde Brown treasurer of American Asphalt Co testified that Loomis’ check was an ordinary exchange for convenience and showed company records of Loomis’ call for American money. Ira Atkinson of the asphalt firm testified and denied discussing rumors of checks passing through officers.

Stockholders met at the Southern Hotel on Saturday and elected directors for the ensuing year. The new board has not yet chosen officers. By resolution the principal place of business was moved from Bakersfield to Oakland.
