Wells Defense Claims Justifiable Shooting of Tyrrell

T A Wells defends itself in court, arguing the August shooting of J M Tyrrell was lawful resistance to a land invasion. Eyewitnesses Tyrrell Beck Waits described unloading lumber when Wells ordered them off, fired, and Tyrrell fell. Wells testified he acted to defend his property.

Ice Plant to Be Built by Union Ice Company in City

B Toby general manager for Union Ice of San Francisco arrived to locate a site on Chester avenue for a 35 ton daily ice plant with 2500 ton storage. Building 194 by 84 feet will host either Wolf De La Vergne or Frick equipment and may add capacity to 70 tons. Completion expected by February 1 with 24 degree storage and oil heating.

John Hoover Drowns Himself in Sleagh Canal

John Hoover, longtime resident emotionally distressed and briefly jailed, attempted suicide after release, wandered to Panama slough north of Nineteenth Street Bridge, washed ashore in a semi conscious state. He was institutionalized, escaped, and the body later surfaced in the slough. An inquest will be held at Niederaar’s undertaking parlors.
