Merced and Bakersfield Meet in California Championship Game

Next Sunday the second tournament game for the California championship will be played here between the Merced and Bakersfield baseball clubs. Merced has a fine team and will challenge Bakersfield to rise to the occasion. The new ball park is in fine condition and a temporary grand stand will be used next Sunday. Bids for privileges close Saturday night with Manager Packard.

Mt Whitney Telephone Line Goes Into Operation

The Bakersfield to Tulare county line has been completed and now operates perfectly after moving a mile from the railroad to avoid induction from telegraph lines. The line is faultless in performance and ready for use.

Prosperous Bakersfield Building and Loan Association Meet

The Bakersfield Building and Loan Association held its annual stockholders meeting with a secretary’s report showing flourishing condition. Franz Buckreus was elected director replacing J. B. Hunt, and Paul Bennett succeeded Cc. C. Cowgill as the association’s attorney.

Water fountain dedicated by WCTU ladies at M and Nineteenth

The supervisors granted the ladies of the W C T U permission to erect a marble drinking fountain at the corner of M and Nineteenth streets. The fountain, long in building, was stationed today and the public thanks are due to the women who provided it.
