Eleven Bullets Stop Legendary San Emigdio Grizzly Pinto
Four residents of the San Emigdio region killed the notorious grizzly Pinto after a two day pursuit. The bear attacked a sheep camp and was felled by eleven bullets from Winchester rifles, including five in the brain. Pinto’s carcass weighed about 1000 pounds, with massive skull and brain damage. The skin, teeth, and gall drew buyers, and a $75 reward was awarded to Pinto’s slayers.

Rumor of Evans and Sontag’s Visit to Visalia Surfaces
Villagers claimed Evans and Sontag returned to Visalia and stayed at the Evans house. A large posse surrounded the residence but found no sign of the outlaws after extensive maneuvering. Engineer Phipps testified he saw the pair near the road on Wednesday night en route to Visalia.
