Republicans at Ohio convention praise Roosevelt era policies

A June 4 report from Lincoln, Neb., via Superior describes a clash near St Francis Kansas where Berry family homesteaders faced armed cowboys. Five Berrys died after a road-cutting dispute with cattlemen, as the family defended a homestead and home against an armed sweep.

Re election of Mark Hanna held to be national demand

The Ohio convention opened with Hanna in command as the Republican State Convention was called to order in Columbus. The credentials report seating Monroe and Hocking delegates was adopted. Boothman withdrew for lieutenant governor. Harding's name was promised. Foraker received a warm reception as permanent chairman and praised Hanna as delivering the year’s keynote. Next year, Foraker said, is Roosevelt's year amid cheers.

Shot in the mouth by unknown boys injures 12-year-old Rosie Avaelon

In San Francisco on June 4 a 12-year-old girl, Rosie Avaelon, was shot in the mouth by unknown youths. She remains in serious condition at home. the bullet's location is undetermined and the surgeon has not removed it, but she is believed to have a fair chance of recovery.

Maxwell v Board of Freeholders: Supreme Court Affirms Ruling

The Supreme Court in San Francisco on June 4 affirmed the lower court ruling against George F. Maxwell in a suit against the Board of Freeholders commissioners. Maxwell sought to be retained as secretary after adoption of the last freeholders charter.
