Public debt statement shows May decrease and cash balances

The May public debt declined by 789126. Total treasury cash stood at 754122984 with aggregate debt 961750880. End May figures include gold reserve 95048640 and net cash 26516514. Gold coin decreased 764749 while silver rose 573874. National Bank deposits surplus rose to 11649143 from 11270699.

Chicago Sunday opening questioned in world fair suit

In Chicago on June 2 the Federal Court adjourned amid arguments over a Sunday opening of Jackson Park for the World’s Fair. United States Attorney Milchrist urged a restraining order for next Sunday, which was declined. Judge Woods warned no decision date. Chief Burnham had ordered Sunday access for June 4 from 8 am to 11 pm with exhibits open to 10 pm.

Rain-maker Toreka claims Melbourne secret sparked showers

Toreka, on June 2, began six hours of gas release to provoke rain in Melbourne. Clouds formed and rain fell from 10:30 last night until daylight. In Los Angeles, Patrick J. Flynn, a civil engineer, died last night at about fifty five in the Jackson house after about a week of illness. He was born in Tralee Ireland and was educated at an English university. He practiced engineering for thirty years.

Crop prospects grim for frost damaged peach crop in county

Weather Bureau crop bulletin for week ending May 29 reports frost hit South Fork fruit trees reducing upper river peach yield. Unirrigated wheat and barley expected very light while irrigated will be fair. Fruit crop overall looks good with thick apricots, heavy peaches, full pears and abundant vine blossoms. 10,000 acres planted this season, 20,000 more expected next winter.
