Commercial Club of Topeka seeks outside aid flood

In Topeka the Commercial Club voted at noon to ask for outside aid for flood sufferers after Governor Bailey urged relief. Kansas City reports improvement with floodwaters receding, rail traffic resuming, and supplies coming in. Officials plan to restore water and gas service. damage nationwide estimated at tens of millions.

Tornado kills about one hundred in Gainesville Ga

Gainesville and nearby towns suffered a devastating tornado that killed about 100 people and injured 200 with roughly 1000 left homeless. Two hundred homes and the cotton mills were destroyed causing an estimated 300000 dollars in property losses. Relieved by physicians and volunteers, shelters were set up in city halls and armories as relief funds were raised and appeals for tents and aid were issued.

Heaths Letter Made Public Addresses Postmaster General Reply

Washington June 2 Postmaster General Payne released Perry S Heath former First Assistant Postmaster General reply to S W Tulloch charges The letter dated May 25 1993 defends his tenure cites wartime upheaval and immigration changes noting no honorary rolls and pledging to provide details if needed. Heath says appointments were based on ability and character and accepts occasional mistakes in haste.
