R E Galloway believes Ochoa escaped over Piute mountains toward Lone Pine after two horses were stolen from a meadow pasture. Galloway and companions walked fifty miles from the mountain to Caliente in two days. Officers dispute the claim, noting sightings near Poso flat and a prior chase toward Kernville.

Santa Fe plans first extension to Sacramento and north

A Sacramento dispatch reports F E Valentine of the Santa Fe announcing a planned extension to Sacramento after absorbing the Valley road. He expects Santa Fe trains into Sacramento within eighteen months and notes surveying from Stockton toward Sacramento is complete. The line toward mining areas east of Stockton and potential Santa Fe control of the Woman's Road right of way are also noted, elevating Stockton as a railroad center.
