Noted inventor accused of theft in Bridgeport
George W. Cornwell once chief of Wheeler & Wilson and mentor of note was arrested in Bridgeport on charges of stealing United States bonds and jewelry worth about 11000. Mrs. Gilbert A. Lumpkin, wife of Lumpkin of Arnold & Company, reported the loss after a party at her apartment. The bonds were hidden in a case in a bedroom before the crime was uncovered.

The coroner held Dr. J. W. Simpson a murder suspect after an inquest into Bartley T. Horner's death. Autopsy found two bullet wounds about four to six inches apart, one aligned with Horner's watch pocket and the gold chain carried through the body to the back muscles.
