The sheriff says three men F Auidas Joe Marks and Joe Gomez are jailed with enough evidence to convict for looting Southern Pacific box cars. Police recovered shoes canned goods and other items from two Bakersfield shops and a woodpile with more plunder. Marks confessed and named two accomplices still at large as detectives search for remaining goods.
Modesto Tovino and M. Mous were added to Tebachapi gang suspects, brought from the mountain by Officer Kett. Evidence is described as strong, with non-communicative prisoners and one suspect’s confession implicating others. Kett believes all know of the latest depredation. Masons are invited to lodge instruction evenings led by Grand Lecturer Wm. H. Edwards.
The San Francisco Post reports Governor Gage is ready to call a special session in the second week of January to address harbor improvements urged by the North Central Improvement Association. Henry P. Sontagg says an authoritative informant confirms the plan. Fire department chiefs election set for 8 o clock tonight at the engine house with Ed Benson and Jo Lacey as candidates. A union watch night service is planned at the Christian church next Sunday evening. The first segment will feature a temperance rally led by Evangelist T. H. Lawson of San Jose who will address Why Do People Drink Liquor. Lawson is described as a leading earnest temperance worker in the state. Further program details will be announced later.
