A Magnolia restaurant altercation ended with Sam, a Teamster, returning with a pistol and firing at waiter Jose Cremelta after a dispute over change. The incident prompted jail action and left both men awaiting examination. Deputy Smith arrived to restore order amid broader jail heating plan discussions for the courthouse.
J W Shaffer of the supervisors contract committee examined the jail this morning to prepare a report for the next board meeting. Lower cells were very dark and wet with two inches of standing water in one. Temperature was uncomfortably low and conditions appeared unhealthy.
