Hughes Store Burglary and Medal Presentation at G.W. Vets
A Christmas morning burglary at Hughes drug store broke a glass pane and rifled the cash register and till while $28 lay unseen near the register. Blood was found on the glass and there was no clue to the thief. Major Rice presented NSGW medals to Company G volunteers, honoring many named individuals including Linn Roberts whose father received his token of honor after Roberts died in service.

Passing of Frank Lavalle
Frank P. Lavalle died at the hospital on Christmas morning after a long illness. The funeral was held today at 10 oclock from the Catholic church with many friends attending to honor a good citizen. A native of Canada sixty six years old, he had lived in California many years, mainly in Merced before moving to Kern county ten years ago. He was a kindly hearted man esteemed by all. His poor health for several years made his death not unexpected.
