Terrible condition described from Saint Petersburg dispatches on the earthquake in Russian Central Asia. City of Andijan, a cotton center exporting forty million pounds annually, is largely ruined with only a cotton mill and a church standing. Thousands homeless, relief funds started.
The Pacific Furniture and Lumber Company building at Central Avenue and Seventh Street in Los Angeles was completely destroyed by fire early this morning. A carload of lumber, all stock of furniture and machinery were lost, with damages at least $15,000. Other nearby structures, including the Los Angeles Lighting Company oil tanks and several warehouses, were saved by the fire department. The report also notes Doyle's disappearance and suspected crime tied to mining negotiations.
San Bernardino December 24 John Doyle a wealthy mine owner has been missing for two weeks and foul play is suspected Doyle left Gray’s Landing on the Colorado river while in good health and vital to operations.
The Teamsters and the Butchers will meet on the diamond next Sunday afternoon at Athletic Park for their third game. The Teamsters say they have sought in vain for another foe worthy of their steel, and, being unable to find any in Bakers.

James S. Carroll known as Jimmy to Bakersfield friends died in San Francisco from injuries after the Owl train wreck Saturday night. Pneumonia from inhaled steam caused death after three days of agony. He was a local favorite, connected with the City Street Improvement Company, recently married to a Kern county woman, and a member of the Eagles Elks Native Sons. Funeral set for Bakersfield, remains to Sacramento. The Elks, Eagles and Native Sons mourn his loss with resolutions.
Washington dispatch reports Germany and Great Britain submitted arbitration proposals to President Roosevelt. He has not yet seen the messages due to his absence from the White House, so no decision or details can be disclosed. Officials note his desire to act quickly to avoid incidents tied to the blockade and ensure a peaceful settlement.

The Santa Ana Valley Walnut association, controlling over half the local crop, paid a final $26,000 dividend to stockholders and closed its packing house after a record season. Net receipts totaled $143,828, with shipments of 78 13 carloads. First grade soft shells brought 9.44 cents per pound and hard shells 8.90. Second quality sold for 7.75. Santa Ana valley crop reached 1400 tons and Orange county over 2600 tons, yielding more than half a million dollars to growers.
Four notices posted in Connellsville coal regions grant Frick Coke Company workers a voluntary wage advance averaging 8 percent starting January 1. The 20,000 employees will boost next year wage disbursements by 1.6 million dollars, making Frick Coke the highest paying employer of this labor in the United States. Frick Coke is a subsidiary of the United States Steel Corporation.
