San Francisco December 22 The jury sustained the will of Miss Bertha M Dolbeer killed after a fall from the Waldorf Astoria New York. The contested will bequeathed most of Dolbeer s million dollar estate to her friend Miss Etta M Warren. The verdict ended after 14 minutes and prompts an appeal to the New York Supreme Court delaying distribution for months. The estate is appraised at about 951000.
John Boyd, arraigned before Justice Millard for petit larceny, admitted drunkenness at the Gunadiach store yesterday. He was sentenced this afternoon to 90 days confinement in the county jail after the judge noted the theft showed careful execution despite his intoxication and lack of memory.
In Bolivar Pennsylvania on December 22 a fire at a shanty at the mouth of a coal mine pit claimed seven miners lives. The blaze originated in the crude shelter near the shaft and firefighters fought the flames as rescuers worked to recover victims.
At Garfield today the Reece Hammond Brick Company mine faced a deadly incident as seven foreign miners were smothered to death and two American workers were likely fatally overcome by smoke. Rescue teams noted the heavy smoke from exhausted fans driving into the shaft. A number of miners managed to escape the perilous conditions.
