Judge Hughes awards 126580 in coyote scalp claims in California

Superior Judge J W Hughes entered judgments totaling 126505 against the State of California for coyote scalp claims, adding 46980 for a prior Mills & Company award. Several smaller claims were allowed in part, with some remaining to be decided.

Official blockade proclamation issued by Britain in 1902

London publishes the blockade of Venezuela ports La Guayra Carenero Hunta Cumana and Carupano and the Orinoco mouth. The proclamation grants grace periods for vessels sailing from West Indian and eastern ports and warns that violators face measures under international law.

Police capture Parisian crooks in Madrid raid

Madrid dispatch reports Madame Humbert and family members plus M. and Madame D Aurg nac were arrested in Madrid after a months long fraud case in Paris. Police surrounded a Calle Ferray residence and seized Roumaine Emile and Marie D Aurg nac after a search warrant revealed the wanted offenders.

University of California to excavate Great Pyramid region

The University of California will excavate the Great Pyramid region in Egypt this winter with expected division of the field among the University, Italy, and Germany. Dr. Geo Reisner returned from the Hearst expedition to discuss concessions and the program, while UC teams continue digs at Girga and plan nearby pyramid work around February.

Burning of Home by Strikers Described in Testimony

Mrs Rosa Snyder of Wilkesbarre testified with a baby in her arms before the arbitration committee about her home being set on fire by strikers. She said her husband worked in the mines and feared harm, leading to moves within the city. The fire destroyed the house and contents, which were not insured, with corroboration from her in law family.

Colored colonists plan California settlement for freedmen

J L Edmunds editor of The Liberator leads a campaign to establish a colored colony in Southern California. The plan envisages an entire town with own schools banks churches and libraries, spanning about 40000 acres in Ventura and Riverside counties with backing from the Colored Business Men's League. Mrs C L Hollis is visiting relatives.
