Oil Replaces Wood as Fuel in Bakersfield Switch
W F Bryant and Co delivered twenty barrels of Kern River oil to Wible Bros of the White Star Laundry as Bakersfield begins substituting oil for wood. One barrel equals a cord of wood, three barrels equal a ton of coal. Oil costs about 1.25 dollars per barrel, wood around four dollars. Changing equipment costs are modest, estimated under 35 dollars.
