On Tuesday in Ashkabad Russian Turkstan the town of Andijan in Ferghana government was totally destroyed by an earthquake. Fatalities unknown, population threatened by starvation. Shocks hit New Marghelan and nearby villages. a railway near Andijan was damaged. Aid is being sent. Andijan, in Russian Central Asia, lies 73 miles from Khok and had about 30,000 inhabitants.

San Francisco December 17 The cable ship Silverton reports from noon today 455 knots from shore and 8 knots overall average speed since departure from six miles off port at 2 AM Monday.
