At Secondo Coke ovens near Trinidad Colorado four striking coal miners were shot by guards of the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company. One dies, another gravely wounded, a third likely fatal, the fourth wounded and jailed. Seven strikers were in the party. three escaped. A prior ambush of five non union men occurred nearby under Tom Jennings. Guards pursued to secure routes as shots rang out. guards reported no injuries. Strikers claim guards fired the blaze.
