N C McLean of Los Angeles is jailed on two felony charges tied to purchasing horses in Delano with alleged fraudulent checks. After release, two victims, Herman Piper and J R Glazebrook, filed separate felony complaints. Officer Tibbet pursued McLean to Los Angeles where he was detained on dispatch. McLean bought 40 dollars of horseflesh from Glazebrook and 365 dollars from Piper. In a separate incident, John Reese sustained a fractured lower jaw at Odell's slaughter house. doctors Treated with silver wire network and a head stabilization pad, he remains hospitalized and on soft foods.
Coroner Helm and Reporter Stockton return from Randsburg reporting rapid town growth. They note tents and houses rising daily, influx from many quarters, and the prospect of relocation around the 31st, with the area buzzing like Bakersfield in development.

Leap Year Party at Kern library hall drew a large crowd with Sheridan orchestra providing music. Dancers enjoyed all-night suppers, with ladies bearing the expenses in a festive depot hotel event.
A long list of unclaimed names for advertised letters at the Bakersfield post office dated Saturday December 5 1896. Recipients are urged to call for their letters within two weeks before items go to the Dead Letter Office. Included are numerous individuals with varied surnames and initials. An adjacent ad promotes One Minute Cough Cure for coughs and De Witt's Witch Hazel Salve for sores.
