Trustees postponed voting on fire hose purchase for a week and will meet tomorrow at the engine house at 3 PM with the fire chief to review hose samples. They will also probe a horse lameness, discuss painting the chemical, and consider liquor license applications. Resolutions to grade several streets were read and voted on.
The assault with a deadly weapon case against De Spain was again postponed as many witnesses have left the country and cannot be served. The trial’s likelihood of proceeding now appears slim due to missing testimony.
A letter to Coroner Buckreus from Kernville dated December 1 1900 claims a murder and arson by an Indian named Coyote near Kernville. It states an inquest was held, suspects fled, and three Indians pursue. the letter urges immediate inquest though the coroner notes inquest authority is limited after one has already occurred.
The court allows additional evidence against the suspect nicknamed Coyote to be presented at the preliminary examination if he is placed under arrest. The proceedings aim to establish whether there is sufficient basis to bind the case to a full trial.
The board of supervisors announces all residents who paid hospital taxes prior to the September meeting will receive their money back. The current levy excludes the dollar previously exacted.
The second series of the Peoples Mutual Building and Loan Association matured on December first. Its life spanned seven years and ten months, reflecting the term of the savings and borrowing plan.
A petition signed by many Famosa residents asks the county supervisors to remove Constable Aly from office. The constable no longer lives in the district while his deputy operates regularly, but the board rejects claims due to the deputy being underage.
Chas. O. Brunty who recently lost an arm at San Emidio oil site had a new scare while returning from town. His team suddenly skied, throwing him from the seat. the brake trapped his pantaloons, leaving him suspended head down and bumping as he hung. He had been back to light work at the same well.
