Elks Memorial Services Highlight Local Lodge Event
The Benevolent Protective Order of Elks held Sunday memorial services at Scribner's Opera House with Bakersfield Lodge No. 266 in attendance. Hon. Orrin S. Henderson of Stockton delivered the oration, detailing the order's purpose beyond social aspects, and the ceremony honored departed brothers A. J. Moulty Geo. C. Gorham and Dr. R. A. Ferguson as members bowed at 11 o'clock each time two or more met in assembly.

William the Swede Held For Trial After Delusion
A man called William the Swede, described as a crazy prisoner, was brought from Randsburg this morning by Constable Arnold. He believes he is doomed to spend his days in a heated region and repeatedly tried to jump into a forty foot shaft. He will be tried this evening.
May be sent to the asylum for strange woman
Leonine Zardille, described as a crazy woman, was taken off a train at Kern and committed to the Stockton insane asylum. The judge, informed of a plan to send her that evening, she denied illness, claimed relatives in San Francisco, said she had $212 cash and two bank books totaling 1250, and requested to go to her sister. The coroner’s guardianship was delayed as she remained under sheriff care until her sister could be contacted.

Death Calls Mrs McClaskey in Bakersfield
Mrs. Anna J. McClaskey, widow of the late Judge C McClaskey, died suddenly at her Bakersfield home on 20th street after a period of failing health. Born in Picton Canada at sixtyone, she leaves two daughters in Bakersfield. Remains will be taken to Susanville for interment on Tuesday morning’s train.

Winslow Is Sentenced to San Quentin for Manslaughter
Clyde Winslow was sentenced to five years in San Quentin after a jury found him guilty of manslaughter in the June killing of Al Patterson. A motion for a new trial was denied. It seems unlikely the case will be appealed to the Supreme Court. Also noted: WCTU meeting and LTLA party scheduled at Mrs. G Corliss home tomorrow afternoon.
