Dr George C Pardee of Alameda county won the Republican gubernatorial nomination on the sixth ballot amid chaos and cheers at the state convention. Final tally Pardee 518 Flint 239 Hayes 47 Edson 13 Gage 18, with 416 needed. Gage delegates shifted to Pardee after last roll call, Southern delegates bent to Pardee, Ardor cooled. Nomination for Lieutenant Governor Alden Anderson by acclamation.
San Francisco August 27 witnesses in the Boardman Spreckels libel suit attended the Republican convention in Sacramento. Judge Fritz postponed the hearing until tomorrow and warned he may take a vacation at week's end or early next week to avoid further delay.

Thomas H. Reynolds, longtime Western Union employee and business manager in San Francisco, shot himself in the company office this morning. General Lamb, Pacific Coast division superintendent, cites possible temporary insanity. Reynolds leaves a widow and several children. company accounts reportedly in good order.
O P McGarvie a recognized Western Union telegrapher died at his Los Angeles home at age 37 The obituary notes his prominence in telegraph service and his residence in the city on this August 27 report
