Spokane dispatch reports a taunting note signed Harry Tracy found pinned to a well near Olassa as the outlaw delays pursuit, threatening Mr Cudahy and signaling a move toward Wyoming. A local farmer saw a mysterious man with two horses near his home, while the chase continues eastward at a deliberate pace.
Fred Miller, nephew of Joseph Miller, a Cherokee district stock raiser, shot himself at a slaughter house yesterday afternoon. Miller, a consumptive, used a rifle kept there for killing cattle, the bullet entering his brain. The death followed a period of illness and despair.
Stockton capitalists propose a nationwide double track electric car network. The plan, championed by H. H. Griffiths, superintendent of the Alameda and San Joaquin railroad, aims to connect surrounding counties with modern streetcar lines. The announcement appears in the Californian's leased wire from Stockton dated August 5.
The Coal road applied to the Board of Supervisors for a street railway franchise over county roads into Stockton. It plans an electric double track line for freight and passengers, envisaged as the first link in a larger network between Stockton and Lodi. Mr. Griffiths holds a city passenger franchise and will connect with the new line. Completion is targeted within three years.
San Diego Cal August 5 At a City Council meeting Attorney L L Boone presented a petition for a fifty year telephone and telegraph franchise. The Aldermen approved the petition and the Delegates will act on August 18. The proposal bars sale or alliance with existing city firms and the company will be organized locally by Mr Boone.
TOPEKA August 5 The Santa Fe officials announce the boiler makers strike at San Bernardino and Needles California in effect since May 28 was settled today to the satisfaction of all parties concerned. Both strikers and the company made concessions. The new wage at Needles will be 39 cents per hour. Between fifty and a hundred men returned to work.
J. E. Dooley, cashier of Wells Fargo & Company's Salt Lake bank for twenty six years, resigns. He will be succeeded by F. S. Lipman of the Wells Fargo bank in San Francisco.
The coroner's inquest concluded Carl Garvin Robbins killed Johnnie Withington and Kittie Yorke with a gun. Witnesses described Robbins leaving the restaurant with a revolver, a possible unaccounted weapon, and testimony linked him to the shooting. A potential insanity plea was discussed, linked to a past skull fracture. The funeral of Withington was private, Yorke’s body sent to Sacramento, and Robbins remained silent when asked to speak.
The California Cured Fruit Association will declare a dividend of $20,000. The report is incomplete with vote counting and quorum issues affecting Robbins' probable defense and overall status remains undetermined.

He was treated and rode a train to Hazelton. Overnight reports of camp attacks proved unfounded. cavalry conducted another county exercise as the area remained largely quiet.
The Bakersfield Board of Trustees met in regular session. They granted a thirty day extension for the City Street Improvement Company to complete grading of sidewalks and cross walks on Nineteenth from N to Union. Lights were ordered at Nineteenth Cedar intersection and at Railroad avenue and D street. Fish appointed to Union cemetery board. Street syphons to be added at Eighth and M streets. July salaries approved. Scavenger bids from Briscoe and Winters discussed. Alfred Harrell’s city printing bid accepted. Delinquent tax list printed in Daily Californian. notices priced by square in other papers. Library report printed elsewhere. City assessor Brundage reported property values for Bakersfield. Board to meet next Monday for equalization and accept complaints thereafter. Berlin note reports Ambassador White’s resignation effective November.
