Augustus Lawson, a well known 45 year old engineer, was found dead in the engine room loft of Consumers' Ice and Coal company in Chester after a three day search. Coroner investigates possible suffocation as the cause. motive and how he reached the loft remain a mystery. Lawson held several key engineering posts in local industries.
Seven persons were killed fourteen seriously injured and about one hundred others less seriously hurt when a Southern railway passenger train crashed into the rear of another near Frosts station five and a half miles from Columbia on February 26.
