Nearly all the bones of nurse Bessie Loren, murdered in Oakland, were found in the bay marsh grass. A hunting cap and surgeon’s gear were recovered nearby while portions of a lung and windpipe were turned over to officials. Dr. M H Hamlin is reconstructing the skeleton amid fragmented remains.
Washington reports the Veterans Bureau trimmed expenses to return 69.7 million dollars to the Treasury from a 481.2 million dollar appropriation for the year ending June 30. The savings come despite higher compensation levels, following years of nearly half a billion spent annually.
Melbourne report states Premier Bruce blamed Bolshevik agitators for unrest in Australia and warned he would seek a public mandate to act to ensure peace and good government.

Milwaukee Sept 9 The field for the special nominating primary September 15 for the U S Senate seat left by the late Robert M La Follette includes La Follette Jr Roy Wilcox and Francis B E McGovern leading rival Republican factions plus Arthur R Barry running under La Follette Wheeler banner as the lone wet candidate Democrats back William George Bruce Socialist John W Work all unopposed Potential independent bids loom after the primary as the campaign names a new era for Wisconsin Republicanism and the party’s direction under Coolidge era ideals.
Washington Sept 9 A historic gathering will place the chambers of the Senate and House at the disposal of foreign lawmakers as the Inter parliamentary Union opens a six day meeting on October 1. The twenty third conference will debate international problems with codification of international law as the main topic. Thirty countries are represented with official languages French German and English. Spanish may be added if South American representation grows. Australia and New Zealand will not attend due to elections.

In Tucson Arizona Sol Framin a 17 year old from New York fired a pistol into tinder in Pima Canyon to signal for help. The resulting fire burned about 200 acres of brush and forced the youth to flee to the hills. He is jailed on a charge of starting a forest fire as 18 rangers battle the blaze.
CALMWELL Ohio September 9 A Davis owner of a farm near Ava writes Secretary of Navy Wilbur to donate one acre where the central cabin of the wrecked Shenandoah fell. He seeks a monument or National Park status to honor the 14 lives lost in the disaster.
In Seward Alaska on September 9 a seaplane attempting Wetward district service from Seward crashed on Chugach Island shore due to dense fog and stormy seas. Pilot R H Merrill and broker Gus Gelles reached shore, but high winds overturned the craft damaging its water wing. They arrived later aboard the Admiral Eyous.
Washington reports Gen Nugent will travel to San Antonio to question Gen William Mitchell over published statements. If evidence shows violations of the Articles of War a court martial could follow. Mitchell dismisses calls for inquiry and says there will be no investigation or defense on the matter.
