The French Navy announced plans for a North Pole expedition next spring. Seaplanes and four auto sledges will be used. Flights will depart Dunkirk, reach Spitzbergen, establish a base, proceed to the Pole, then continue to New York City.
San Pedro dispatch reports a Navy expedition to map over 200000 square miles of Alaska coastline. Lt Ben Wratt will command four seaplanes two tenders and 20 airmen to launch from San Pedro in April for a three year project. Maps will be shared with the Navy Forestry Service Coast Guard and Coast Geodetic Surveys along with aeropological data.
The Western Division of the American Mining Congress opened in Phoenix on November 7 and went on record opposing the revaluation of copper mines while endorsing current Bureau of Mines policies. It estimated mining companies would pay between 90 million and 90 million dollars since 1918 under the proposed revaluation.

Brigadier General Henry Ward a Civil War veteran and son of Armetus Ward died in Wellesley Hills Massachusetts last night at age 82. He served in the Union army and his death marks the end of a long military career.
Postmaster General Harry S. New warns in Nation's Business that the postal service faces a 42 million dollar deficit this year. He argues revenue must be expanded or the Treasury will bear the overhead, noting 89 cents of each dollar goes to salaries, transport costs, indemnities, and losses, leaving only 11 cents for savings.

New York reports Count Gosta Monier de Morland, Peggy Joyce's fifth husband, refuses to believe she is suing for divorce in Paris. He says the claim is rumors and he kissed her goodbye when she sailed. Attorney F Dudley Koshler states the Count will not contest the action.
In Oxford on November 17 German divers and English sailors met as a gale halted plans to locate the submarine M-1. The Frankfort football team faced Oxford Greyhounds. the English triumphed 32 to 3, marking the first football meeting between Germans and English since World War I.

Seattle City Council voted to empower Corporation Counsel Kennedy to draft an ordinance offering 1.2 million dollars to purchase the Rainier Valley Railway lines and property. The move signals a plan to take control of the rail assets for public use.
New York report states Mrs. Anna A. Stillman denies any marriage plans with Fowler McCormick after divorce. She and James A. Stillman await a money settlement before formal divorce. Sheriff guards deployed to disperse a mob seeking the slayer of Sheriff Joe Morgan killed last Saturday. Dave Steel, accused, reportedly barricaded in Citizens Bank at Myden. Steel promised surrender if given protection amid election tensions for the successor to the late Morgans vote tally dispute.
In Centerville Maryland on November 17 a mob of several hundred gathered at the jail to seize Joshua Miller charged with attempted assault on his employer s four year old daughter. Steel doors blocked the mob s entry as authorities kept order amid tense crowds.
Olympia, Washington, November 17. The first two years of Governor Hartley's term will cost the state 100000 more than the prior biennium if his budget recommendations are adopted. Hartley seeks 16,059,000 for the year starting April 2, 1928, which is 4,000,000 less than current year appropriations. Total biennial appropriations would be 236,400,000 versus 263,000,000 previously.
Harrison Noel found guilty of first degree murder for the death of Raymond Pierce a Black taxi driver. The jury did not recommend mercy and the sentence is the death penalty.

Mrs William J. Clark told Detective Chief Galation that she and Joseph Cowan kept a $2000 elopement fund in a Newark bank. Cowan, a family friend, was held without bail in Hillside jail. She said Cowan begged her to run away, but she refused.
