New York November 10 stock market prices on active issues collapsed from three to twenty seven points in the largest day's trading since the 3,000,000 share session following a leak on President Wilson's note nine years ago. A record 3,330,000 shares changed hands.
Gov. Roland H. Hartley proposes a non-salaried governor chosen by a Board of Educational Administration and abolition of University of Washington and State College regents as part of a constitutional amendment to end the State Superintendent of Public Instruction. He cites savings from penitentiary operations and seeks broader state reforms including text printing and staff reductions.
President and Mrs. Coolidge turned down a large apple pie offered by the Girls' Club of Vermont University for the White House Thanksgiving meal. Bits of wreckage of the barge Crane have been found on the beach and all hopes have been abandoned for the six men and one woman aboard the barge when she broke from a tug during a storm on Lake Superior last Thursday.
President Crowley of the Fleet Corporation, speaking before the Shipping Board Commissioners, recommended transferring the Admiral Oriental Line agency from R. Stanley Dollar to other steamship interests. He offered no further suggestions.
Norman C. Stinnes of Fairbanks Exploration Company arrives in Seattle to announce a five year plan totaling over 9 million dollars for the Fairbanks area. The firm has spent 1.5 million and foresees no return until 1990. A 10 mile water ditch to Chatanika will be built next summer and rail service is pivotal for future shipments of building material and coal.
Seattle reports John E. Ballaine telling the Treasury Association that high freight rates hinder Alaska growth. He decried Congressman Free for backing Alaska Railroad abandonment and called Alaska rates the highest in the world, noting potatoes rotting in Tanana due to costs to reach markets. He predicted Alaska could become a great state if western opportunity is extended to its cities.
Mrs Anne A Stillman has filed for divorce from James A Stillman in Westchester. The case is expected to rely on a certified transcript of testimony from his earlier unsuccessful suit, with no witnesses anticipated.
In San Bernardino California deputies report that water whiskey or a woman led to the shooting at Government Hotel near the Nevada line last Sunday. Bill Ropvinson and Mat Burts were killed. Burts had previously lost his job with Rock Spring Cattle Company where Ropvinson was foreman two years ago.
In New York the Elks Club House refused entry to a Deputy United States Marshal with subpoenas for books and papers in prohibition proceedings. He set up his station outside the club, pending further action.

Washington November 10 The House Ways and Means Committee approved changes to taxes including a sales tax on pleasure automobiles at seven and a half percent instead of five, while levies on vehicles tires and accessories would be removed. Cigars taxes were cut and the tax on alcohol halved, with Chairman Green saying revenue would fall by over 100 million annually.
Seattle reports an engineering commission study puts the Skagit hydroelectric project at 267000 kilowatts with a construction cost of 28.5 million dollars and a completion target by 1951 after a year of investigation filed with City Council.
The ship Puasians arrived with a cargo of reindeer furs and ivory and eight passengers as officers demanded to see papers. Captain Whitlam said the vessel was boarded September 25 near Tig Diom Island and only the navigator spoke English.
