A Harry Moore, Jersey City commissioner and Democratic nominee, won the New Jersey governor’s race over Republican Arthur Whitney by about 90 000 votes as returns came in from most districts. Moore vows to push Volstead Act modification and repeal of enforcement laws. Whitney urged strict enforcement.
The Courier-Journal reports sluggling, shooting and alleged repeaters as Louisville returns Republicans to power with Arthur Will defeating Democrat Joseph T. O Neal for mayor. Will 65,373 to O Neal 63,106 with 664 of 700 precincts counted.
In Detroit on November 4, Mayor Smith won a non partisan reelection, defeating Ku Klux Klan candidate Charles Bowles. Smith secured 140,838 votes to Bowles 111,051.
San Francisco voters elected nine Supervisors who disapprove of selling hydro electric power from the Hetch Hetchy project, signaling a split stance on municipal ownership and energy policy.
