Memorial Day will be observed in Juneau as declared by Gov Strong and Mayor Carter. Public offices close all day and most business houses will lock doors part or all of the day. No newspapers will be published and the citizens will honor departed heroes, with graves of Civil War survivors to be decorated. Mayor Carter asks merchants to close by noon and stay closed through the afternoon if possible.

Knik Mining Men Prepare Big Alaska Dredging Plans
An Admiral Sampson voyage carries Co. K. Woodward and a crew of prospectors toward the Yentna river region. Woodward’s 2400 acres on the Kichatna and Nacochna tributaries are slated for heavy mining, with drills already proving an immense ground potential from 0.65 to 4 dollars per yard. Albert F Holden Dies at Cleveland Ohio
News from Juneau reports the death of Albert Fairchild Holden on May 18 in Cleveland Ohio after a surgical operation. Holden was a director and large stockholder of the Alaska Gastineau Mining Company and owner of the Cleveland Daily Plain Dealer. Born in 1866 in Cleveland, he was a renowned mining engineer who visited Juneau last summer with Col. Jackling and left many friends who will be shocked by his passing.
