SEATTLE May 18. Alexander Gooch 87 Klondike and Alaska pioneer died Saturday after a brief illness. Born St John New Brunswick he joined the Klondike gold rush in 1898 and lived at Dawson V T until 1905. He then settled in Fairbanks moved to Seattle and ran the Pioneer Hotel in Prince Rupert B C from 1935 to 1942. Survived by son Edmund Gooch and daughter Mrs Ethel Oliver.

Washington May 18 The civil contempt conviction against John L Lewis and the United Mine Workers was dismissed today at the Governments request. Judge Goldsborough reserved ruling on ending the anti strike injunction while noting danger of a new coal strike. The injunction, issued April 21 to end a six week strike over pensions for elderly miners, replaced an April 3 restraining order. Attorney General Tom Clark said the pension dispute is being handled and miners are at work, public interest secure.

Funeral services for William Fleck will be held tomorrow at 2 PM in the Charles W. Carter Chapel with Dean C. E. Rice delivering the eulogy. Interment follows in Evergreen Cemetery. He worked at Treadwell Mine Juneau and Alaska Gastineau Mining Co then ran Pleek Machine Shop in Douglas. The last two years he mined in the interior.
