Yucatan joins the Provisional Government in Mexico City as governor and military commander flee likely to Cuba. Carranza loses Progresso with 4,000 loyal troops defeated near Rinconada. Villa, the revolutionary bandit, is en route to Mexico City with reportedly no escort. Authorities claim revolutionists seized millions in gold and silver from Carranza trains.
The cold storage bill requiring marking of entry dates on goods offered for sale was approved by the Senate late yesterday and sent to conference today. The measure also caps storage to twelve months.

In Spokane on May 18 the state Democratic convention seated both competing Pierce County delegations, each awarded half a seat, with leaders vowing to challenge the ruling on the floor. Credentials committee earlier backed regular King County delegates over the Federal Brigade by 24 to 14.
Seattle report says the Senate Commerce Committee plans early post recess action on a Pacific cable project. Senator Wesley L. Jones supports a system including Alaskan land lines and crossing the Aleutians to Siberia, with cable communication favored over wireless due to reliability concerns.
The Supreme Court dismissed appeals by railroad and steamship firms challenging Interstate Commerce Commission powers to set terms in interstate bills of lading. The court said the question belongs in the Transportation Act's enactment authorizing expanded powers, with Alaska Steamship Company among the parties.
Washington May 18 Senator Asle J Gronna of North Dakota announced his plan to seek reelection on the Republican ticket next fall. Gronna first won a senate seat in 1911 and was reelected in 1914. His current term ends March 3 1921.

In Rome Premier Nitti accepts King Victor Emmanuel's invitation to form a new cabinet after the previous Italian government resigned over the Fiume issue. Eugene Ore Lieut R M Kelly of the Ninth Aero Squadron plans a seven and a half hour flight from Blaine Wash to Stockton Calif to overtake an Ad Club Automobile Caravan en route to a convention.

The Interstate Commerce Commission urged railroads and state public service commissions to aid in ending a nation wide freight blockade threatening business activity. It plans to work with railroads and shippers to accelerate freight movement and may seek orders to take control of shipping if the emergency justifies it.
Washington May 18 The Republican peace resolution reported from the Senate was laid on the table with instructions for Chairman Stephen G Porter to confer with Senate leaders to craft an acceptable plan without sending the measure to conference A House vote is expected before week’s end but a Wilson veto is deemed highly likely.
The steamer Admiral Watson departed Seattle at 10 o clock this morning bound for Alaskan ports with 135 passengers aboard. One passenger, Miss Hilda Aalto, was listed for Juneau.
Washington May 18 The government air mail service marks its second anniversary with an 87 percent average annual performance under adverse conditions. The Post Office Department notes substantial savings on the Washington New York and New York Chicago routes and outlines future plans to extend to San Francisco via New York.

Representatives of over a hundred smaller papers formed the United States Publishers' News print Conservation League to combat newsprint shortages and rising prices. A resolution calls for papers with more than fifty thousand circulation to cut daily usage by five percent and Sunday by ten percent.

Tacoma May 18 A struggle over a revolver ended with P B Freeman a local jeweler fatally shot by his stepson Robert Frierman. The youth reported the deed to police claiming the shot was fired in self defense.
William Gibbs McAdoo, former Secretary of Treasury and director of American Railways, says he is not a candidate for any office and has no plan to attend the Democratic National Convention in San Francisco, speaking in Colorado Springs on May 18.
Washington May 18 Republicans in the House conference committee were notified that the soldier relief bill will be on the caucus agenda tomorrow night. Airman H. M. Towner conveyed the notice.
Dover May 18 The lower house of the Delaware Legislature adjourned without acting on ratification of the Woman's National Suffrage amendment.

More than 150 bodies of Americans who died overseas while serving with the Navy arrived in New York yesterday. They are the first of the Navy’s dead in the world war to be returned home.
Viscount Kikujiro Ishii, former Japanese Ambassador to the United States, is appointed Ambassador to France. He replaces Baron Keishiro Matoui who returns home for health reasons.
The executive legislative and judicial appropriations bill was passed by the House after amendments objected to were addressed. The President vetoed the measure citing executive power concerns, warning that the veto would not stand, while Senate consideration was pending.
