The United Auto Workers call a strike against Hudson Motor plants in Detroit while GM reports a walkout at Flint Chevrolet. An agreement to delay strikes across 60 GM plants in 22 states for one day was announced by the Defense Mediation Board. The Flint action occurred as postponement word arrived late, with the Hudson strike continuing.
A heated cabinet debate centered on freezing German and Italian funds held in the United States. Hull and Jones backed allowing Axis spending, while others favored freezing. The issue notes German patent leases bring in over a million dollars monthly and Italian funds moving from New Orleans to Mexico.
May 15 neutral sources say Britain attacked an airdrome in French Mandated Syria while the French Foreign Office denies any knowledge of events in Syria.

Associated Press reports a violent German attack on Crete, seat of King George's Greek government. Luftwaffe claims to have bombed military targets on Crete and Malta by day and night, destroying 15 British planes on Crete airfields and shooting down eight more in dog fights over Crete. No further results on Malta are detailed.
London May 15 British bombers left three German supply ships burning after an attack on a convoy off the Frisian Islands this afternoon the Air Ministry announced. The ships capacities were 2000 4100 and 5000 tons German fighters rushed to the scene and one plane was shot down.
Washington May 1 defense has boosted the Governments printing operation. The Government Printing Office handled about 18 million dollars of work last year and is projected to double that figure this year. The staff rose from roughly 5,500 to about 7,200. Augustus Giegengack, chief public printer, faced 80 freight carloads of paper awaiting unloading, a normal weekly loading for the GPO.
