Pittsburgh dispatch reports Navy balloon No 18 won the national elimination balloon race in a 44 hour flight covering 909 miles before landing at Prince Edward Island. the record awaits verification by the National Aeronautical Association. Twelve balloons started the race last Saturday.
A party of trappers salvaged a balloon after two merchandise dropped in the Adirondacks. E J Will and Arthur Schlosser of the Detroit Times crew walked two days out of the wilderness, reporting hunger cold and a long cold trek. They had to dump their load to survive and found few familiar locals in the sparsely settled region.
Ice broke in front of Dawson City at 2 33 yesterday afternoon May 7. First prize of about 7200 goes to Thomas Leach of Dawson and Grace Stewart of Anchorage. Ice broke previously on May 9 last year at 3 12 pm.
Dick Douglas, one of three Boy Scouts who joined the Martin Johnson expedition to Africa, will leave Seattle May 15 to hunt bears on Kodiak Island. He will be greeted by Seattle civic organizations and the Boy Senate, welcomed in Juneau by Gov. George A. Parks, and may travel with a whaling fleet boat. The trip is sponsored by George Palmer Putnam. H. Bloom of Fairbanks is a westbound passenger aboard the Alaska.

The Gorst plane from Juneau landed in Cordova Bay after a 450 mile nonstop flight in four hours and 20 minutes. Pilot Clayton Scott and mechanic Gordon Graham led the crew, with Alf Cordova joining in celebration of the arrival marking a new airway link from the Equator to the Arctic.
Berlin reports from Yovas Lithuania say crowds were urged into frenzy as protesters condemned an attempted assassination of Premier Vaitiemaras. Speakers blamed Col Pletskaitis followers, linking the plot to opposition efforts to topple the government and widening tensions with Poland. Wallstedt returned to Ju nea as an Alaska passenger.
Washington May 6. Administration leaders are discouraged at efforts to defeat the export debenture plan in the Prym Bill. The latest check shows a margin of five votes in favor of retaining the clause, Senator Watson of Indian said that even if the debenture clause passes the Senate the House would eliminate it. The outcome in the Senate is regarded as important as it tests the President's strength in the upper chamber. The vote is expected this week by early next week.
Heavy fighting along the Canton to Kaylor railway between Canton and Tantonese forces halts rail service. Reports claim Ewangites have captured Shimine west of Canton and push Canton troops back as they advance toward the area.
Thirteen members of the Legislature departed for home after a 60 day session that ended Friday. Most traveled aboard the Alaska steamship line vessels the Alaska and the Aleutian with several representatives and senators aboard. Notable travelers included Senators Dimond Hess Sundquist Prime Burgh Donnelley Fisher and Speaker Rorlenburg along with Mrs Dimond Mrs Hess and Mrs Donnelley. Additional members and passengers included Outen Steel Nylen Geatic Benjamin McCormick and a trader from Mountain Village aboard the ships heading west.
A satirical plan dubbed the Chicago sneezeless program proposes eradicating ragweed to relieve hay fever in the city. Dr Bernard Pantus and Dr Pastus cite Chicago’s 30 000 to 40 000 sufferers and potential annual losses, urging $10 per sufferer to clear ragweed by August on 40 000 acres of vacant lots.
Senator Brookhart introduced a Senate bill to regulate the motion picture industry. The measure targets alleged oppressive practices by large producers and distributors against independents.
Nashville May 8 D P Osborn admitted accepting a bribe while voting for acquittal in the Walter Liggett murder trial and Rainey Creswell confessed to bribery charges. Warrants issued. Osborn and Creswell texts show Creswell offered to cover a grocery bill. Lipgett killed Cunningham after an affair with Mrs Cunningham.
Dispatch from Bombay reports a riot on the Malabar coast where six thousand Hindus and Mohammedans armed with knives and missiles clashed near the mosque. The fighting spread over two square miles before authorities dispersed rioters with bayonet and sword charges.
Stephen Birch president of Kennecott Copper told stockholders the year should be as good or better for copper. He said Kennecott group of mines had 63,000,000 to cash and copper with most metal sold and 801,000,000 pounds produced last year. About 20,000,000 pounds sold, rest from stocks. Production in line with consumption, export sales about 45,000 tons, domestic shipments around 20 cents per pound.

Damage suits totaling 80000 dollars are filed in San Francisco against Kathleen Norris and husband Charles G Norris Mrs Lillian Kolster and James Benet by youths Robert Eben age 14 and Joseph Ward age 15 of Palo Alto. The accident occurred last March when the youths were passengers in a car owned by Mr Norris and driven by Benet.
Mrs. A. J. Kashevaroff will sail tomorrow aboard the Admiral Evans with her daughter Mini Zella Kashevaroff to Seattle. They seek admission to an orthopedic hospital for treatment after knee troubles since December. The stay is planned for an indefinite period.
Hammond Indiana reports a triple slaying that ends a brief Chicago gang war truce. Victims John Scalist Albert Anselmi and Joe Guinta shot on a rural road. Police say the men were Capone henchmen linked to the St Valentine’s Day massacre.
May 8 dispatches report Guadalajara cell of Christers fighting to hold Colotl and Church St. Nichols against Federal troops under Gen. Cedillo. Sixty-eight killed, 48 wounded. Survivors retreated to the cemetery then to nearby mountains. Colotland recently captured from religious rebels. Gen. Calles orders new troop assignments nationwide with a federal air force to pursue the Christers. Topete brothers and Fausto Ricardo’s property confiscated.
Mrs Wallis George is confined to her home with a serious hip injury. She will likely be laid up for several weeks as she recovers.
New York stock exchange resists admitting investment trusts to trading as the sector grows in popularity. Officials say the situation is in an experimental stage and regulatory rules are not ready. Only American International Corp and Alleghany Corp have been admitted. United Corp seeks listing with J. P. Morgan support.
