Atlanta May 8 President Harding declared in a letter read at the General Federation of Women's Clubs mid-triennial meeting that the nation’s heart and judgment are united for American adherence to the World Court. He said opposition would not prevail and stressed unprecedented public cooperation on major policies.
May 8 report voters in Seattle elect three city council members two school board members a port commissioner and a corporation counsel. five ballot measures include a 500000 bridge bond for University Washington Stadium expansion 750000 for school buildings and 85000 for Skinner Eddy plant site purchase plus a three mill levy for schools. strong contest surrounds Skinner Eddy purchase with Tax League opposition. six council candidates include Erickson Hesketh Rathburn Tindall Colegrove Stavenson and Kennedy named for corporation counsel without opposition.
An off icial citizens committee seized 25 alleged Wobblies in Bonners Ferry and deported them across the nearby Montana line ten miles away. The action was carried out by 200 businessmen and veterans from the Bonners Ferry Lumber Company who vowed to keep the town from becoming a Northern Idaho headquarters for the Wobblies.
Colonel William B. Grealey head of the Forest Service received the Distinguished Service Medal from the War Department on April 25 for meritorious wartime service. He led forestry operations in France from June 1918 to July 1919 and has also earned the Legion of Honor and the Distinguished Service Order. E A Sherman notes the decoration coincided with Forest Protection Week and lauds Grealey for advancing forestry and conservation.
Riga May 8. Soviet authorities in Russia hold more than 2,000 ordained priests and bishops and 3,000 priests of other faiths plus lay adherents in prison for religious reasons, according to Soviet circles.

New York May 8 The Circuit Court of Appeals has taken under advisement the Federal government's petition for a temporary injunction to restrain the New York Coffee Sugar Exchange and Clearing Association from trading in raw sugar futures unless backed by actual ownership and control of the community.
Wenatchee May 8. Eli Moorhouse a prominent public accountant from Seattle who was here for the blossom festival completed death by his own action. The motive has not been determined.
Dawson May 8. Yukon River ice is breaking at several spots and navigation may open within a fort night. Klondike River opened Sunday but main river remains held and could break within a week. Last mushers report hazardous experiences as they cross thin ice. Denlop, Gattis and Gudmundeon for Falibanks say they broke through ice several times.
Joseph Soloman fireman dies from scalds after the steam evaporating plant on the battleship New York exploded at SAN PEDRO on Saturday. Five other men are in serious condition making this the second fatality from the incident as reported on May 8.
Paris May 8 a French government spokesman stated the Franco Belgian reply links reparations to inter allied debts totaling 133 billion gold marks fixed in 1921 Germany owes. France seeks her share payments of 50 billion marks as a minimum and part of the remaining 80 billion marks tied to war debt payments to the United States and Britain. If the United States lowers its war debts France will proportionally reduce her share of the 80 billion.

J Allen Mills a Northwestern University freshman who organized the class rush the day Leighton Mount disappeared has been arrested in Akron Ohio. A grand jury has begun a probe into the case. Mounts remains were found last week under a deck at Evanston.
ST. PAUL May 8 Approximately five million dollars in back taxes can be collected from Minnesota mining firms. The U S Supreme Court upheld the state tax on six percent gross earnings from ore mined in Minnesota.

Shanghai reports say bandits who raided the Shantung Express demand 2,000,000 dollars Mexican for ransom, over a million American money. A list of foreigners held includes Americans Major Roland Pinner and Major Robert Allen, Jr., F. Friedman, J. B. Kesa, A. Henry, and others from Italy France Britain Mexico and unknown. Women mistreated include Lloyd Lehbras of the China Press who escaped.
Washington May 8 The United States can compel masters of vessels from foreign ports to submit manifests showing all articles aboard including those whose importation is prohibited. The ruling comes from a Supreme Court decision in Wesley Sischo master of a vessel that reached Seattle who argued he need not show a manifest of forbidden goods.
The 300th anniversary Jubilee Exposition in Gothenburg will open tomorrow with King of Sweden and royal family attending. Events include Te Deum at churches, royal procession to Gustaf Adolfs Square, wreath at Gustavus Adolphus statue, and a 1000-voice chorus. The gates open to the public at 1 PM and the fair runs through September 30.
