Joseph E Riley, a prominent mining operator on Otter Creek, was shot by Marlo Cegara, a Montenegrin wood chopper, in Riley’s boiler house. Cegara fired three times as Riley worked, killing him. Cegara was captured nearby and jailed in Flat City after a coroner’s verdict of guilt. A preliminary U.S. Commissioner hearing is planned.
In San Francisco on May 7 the United States Circuit Court of Appeals denied the application for a receiver of Nome Consolidated Dredging Company, a 310 million concern.
