Independence, March 29. Bernard Arends, 33, a farmer, killed his four young children, his wife, and then himself after fearing 1-A draft and threats to his prosperous Grays Harbor farm. The slain children were Mary Frances six, James Michael four, Robert Otto two, Elizabeth six weeks. Mrs Arends was washing outside as the shootings began.
