A major earthquake in central Japan causes widespread damage with reports of collapsed bridges tunnels and fires. Tokyo Kobe and Tajima suffer alarms as communication lines fail and deaths exceed one hundred.
March 7 dispatches report Cantonese forces pressing toward Foochow while Gen Tsung-Chang strengthens northern troops around the city. The Shanghai Nanking Railway supply line is Chang's main route. Cantonese forces lie within five miles of Foochow as a split emerges among Cantonese leaders. Hui Chien, minister of justice, pushes to curb Chang's growing power. Shanghai also notes 500 Japanese sailors have landed and been quartered in Japanese cotton mills.
Four Seattle men connected with Fisheries Companies filed articles of incorporation for the $100,000 Snug Harbor Alaska Packing Company to run a salmon cannery on Cook Inlet. Incorporators are E. J. Fribrock president I. M. Foster vice president A. S. Foster secretary and L. J. Hull treasurer.
Seattle dispatch reports Dr William F Good owner and commander of the schooner yacht Anna Helen sailed today for Attu Island on a cruise along the Alaska coast. He plans to stop at remote towns and villages providing dental work along the way.
In Northern Alaska two malamutes and their human companion face a perilous event. The dogs pull a struggling master through snow as help arrives, guided by trackers and markers that reveal a treacherous path and the dangers of cold weather in the remote region.

Two Colorado towns faced heavy snow as aviators battled to cross the mountains. Attempts to move supplies from Denver were interrupted by strong winds and cold temperatures, with pilots forced to contend with 135 mile an hour winds and twenty degree below conditions.
Fairbanks Alaska March 7 Capt Ge 1 Wilding plans trial flights early in the week with two Stingon phones forming in a local hangar. The flights are temporary with intermittent snow flurries. Wildings says his ten flight hare for Point Barrow March 15 and March 20.
Washington March 7 The Navy Department asks for bids to construct three new cruisers indicating President Coolidge will not lose the construction. Columbia Calif March 7 Ten golfers arrested for playing at Camden and a Columbia cigar proprietor jailed for selling soft drinks and cigarettes in violation of dusty laws. An injunction blocked arrests on two nearby golf courses crowded with players.

Police nabbed two men in San Francisco as they tried to bomb the Saints Peter and Paul church. One bomber wounded by police fire, seven officers inside the church and eight near exit. NEW YORK March 7 The second annual six day bicycle race entered the second day today with its first serious accident. Emil Rohrach of France was caught in a jam and catapulted into a box off the track. A pedal struck a woman over the eye inflicting a deep gash. Rohrach was knocked unconscious and suffered injuries to head and abdomen but soon returned to the race.
A Pan American plane damaged during takeoff in Montevideo when it struck a harbor rock and plunged into the sea. No injuries reported. Three planes await repairs to the damaged craft.
One hundred sixty seven thousand pounds of halibut were sold today in Prince Rupert. American fish brought 7 1/2 cents and Canadian 7 1/40 cents per pound, reflecting market rates. A brief market item notes strong demand from both sides of the border.

The Supreme Court today upheld federal authority over state primaries in a ruling that directs that party primaries are elections under constitutional guarantees. The decision arose from I A Nixon’s suit in West Texas alleging denial of rights and seeks damages. the court noted jurisdiction and left merits for later.
