Indications point to German occupancy of Petrograd soon as all diplomats depart. Japanese troops are ready, while President Wilson studies the situation to determine the best course of action.
Washington March 1 Japan's proposal for active service in Siberia was taken up at a cabinet meeting after talks with Secretary Lansing and British Ambassador Reading. No final conclusion was reached, but there was an interchange of opinion and a sense of rapid forward movement.
Petrograd report says German forces resumed their march and may occupy the site in hours while foreign diplomats depart. The fate of the place hangs on quick action as Japan's entry into the eastern situation is under consideration.
Washington reports indicate Japan is considering swift action to block Germany from taking Vladivostok and Siberian stores funded by American cash and to control the Trans-Siberian line. Amsterdam, March 1. The German government has ordered the coinage of 200,000,000 new iron five pfennig pieces. Complaints about the scarcity of small coins have been persistent across Germany for a long time.
Washington March 1 The Senate considered an emergency amendment to the draft law to enroll men at 21 but it was laid over until tomorrow without debate. A resolution was approved authorizing the President to call into immediate service skilled experts in the agriculture industry.
