President Roosevelt signed bills expanding the American Merchant Marine with direct subsidies covering up to 60 percent of ship costs. The same day he also approved a 40 hour week labor rules for firms selling to the government, backed by AFL proponents, and pensions for Alaska Railroad workers matching Panama Railroad benefits.
Spokane June 30 Gonaded by cross examination for mer United States Senator C Dill admitted in his divorce trial that he had seen no evidence to support his charge that his wife Rosalie Jones was a filthy housekeeper and that she buried dead dogs in the back yard. He said the details came from servants and friends and that he had not lived with her since 1933. He added she told friends he was drinking heavily and that she planned to alter his politics and beliefs.
Passengers from the steamer Yukon ride an Irving Airways Lockheed Vega seaplane piloted by Gene Meyring on a scenic flight over Juneau and the glacier. After the glacier flight the plane carries United States mail to Sitka and way ports and one passenger, John Lundel, to Tenakee.

Passengers Miss Margaret Wheatley and Darrel Wheatley arriving on the Princess Alice will join the flight to Atlin. The flight also carries fresh vegetables and lubricating oil and will return to Juneau tomorrow.
Illinois Governor Henry Horner and Frank Murphy predicted both Illinois and Michigan will vote for Roosevelt in November after a lengthy political conference with President Roosevelt. The two officials shared the forecast with newsmen in Hyde Park New York.

The U S Court of Appeals for Cincinnati rules the National Labor Relations Board cannot issue orders against firms whose business does not directly affect interstate commerce. The decision vacates the NLRB's enforcement of a cease and desist order against the Frachaut Trailer Company of Detroit, which had barred discharges tied to union activism.
Soldiers from Koot Barracks will take part in Independence Day events in Juneau led by John Pegu es of the American Legion committee. Bert Parker was the low bidder on the Salmon River bridge at Point Gustavus with a bid of 2597 dollars. Mendenhall Construction offered 3676 dollars for the 397 foot pile trestle near Strawberry Point, with the contract to be awarded after approval by Chief Engineer Ike P. Taylor who is in the Interior.

Miss Mary Stewart daughter of B D Stewart Territorial Commissioner of Mines was appointed Junior Counselor at Camp Willapai Washington and left yesterday on the Alaska to join her sister Miss Jeanette Stewart who is Counselor at the same camp. Both girls are widely known in Ju best.
A Bureau of Indian Affairs delegation led by Dr James G Townsend and David Thomas sails to Nome and Barrow via Purbanks to assume hospital duties and expand educational services in Alaska. They will meet Dr J F Van Ackeren and plan further northern visits as part of a $9.9 million interior department appropriation for ongoing programs.
London June 30 Clement R Atlee Labor leader assailed cabinet ministers for outside declarations and accused Prime Minister Baldwin of sleeping the Little Boy Blue. Rumors say Baldwin may resign though he won a parliamentary vote against a Labor motion over a Paris speech by Alfred Dult Cooper War Secretary.
Circle tour passengers aboard the Yu kon today include Mrs. Julia B. Harwood of Ikhart Jr. and Mrs. Pearl Stuttle of Williamsville making their first Alaska visit. Harwood, a costume collector, has toured much of the world and uses her diverse garb in civic lectures. Both women expressed excitement for Alaska and future Westward and Tremor events. Olivia de Haviland is an expert owimmer.
Congressman Marion A. Zioncheck departed the Capitol by train for his Seattle home escorted by police after a stay in a Maryland mental health facility. He waved no farewell to onlookers, saying he would be back as his wife remained behind. A plane is expected to arrive in Seattle around 8:40 a.m. tomorrow.
In Pittsburgh today the Steel Workers' Organizing Committee presses to enroll 450,000 steel workers into one union amid a first clash with industry spokesmen. Attorney Earl Reed warned the drive could spark a general labor strike like England's. Philip Murray said company unions drive the royalists of steel, with a large celebration planned for Homestead to mark the forty fourth anniversary of the steel strike.
In Bad Sarrow Germany on June 10 lightning struck the thatched roof of Max Schimeling's two story country house. He and his actress wife Amy Ondra were uninjured as firemen from three villages saved the ground floor. The second story roof was destroyed and smoke and water damaged the lower level.
Gov. Herbert H. Lehman announced he will be a Democratic candidate for Governor of New York State, yielding to party pressure. The Albany statement was issued June 30, detailing his decision.
