Judge Robert W. Jennings ordered Walstein G. Smith and John Rustgard to appear in U S District Court at Ketchikan on July 11 to show cause why they should not be cited for contempt. The move arises from mandamus actions by Edith Sheeler against Treasurer Smith over warrants for $300 for health department clerk services.

His brothers F Roy Groves and George C Groves received 2500 and 500 dollar fines respectively after pleading guilty. In Washington DC William F Egan former clerk of the legal department of the Prohibition Enforcement Bureau was arrested on bribery charges with others cited as targets.
Minnesota June 28. The executive committee of the Motion Picture Theater Owners Association of America plans a merger of 15 leading independent distributors into one corporation to fight the movie trust and to raise $2,000,000 for an advertising campaign.
DETROIT June 28 The National convention of Socialists said a general strike is a powerful weapon for workers but advocacy in the United States under current conditions would be folly A resolution invited radical groups to a conference next year to form an alliance to prevent future wars The convention rejected a motion to expel members who endorsed the Third Communist Internationale The party reported a 21000 debt and ordered a national fundraising campaign.
