George A Parks retires from public life after four decades
Former Alaska Governor George A. Parks, who led the territory from 1925 to 1933 and later served as Regional Cadastral Engineer in Juneau, announced his retirement effective June 30 after nearly forty years of public service. He plans a three month leave before returning to Juneau and entering private enterprise. During his career he also held the post of Treasurer of the Alaska Area Council of the Boy Scouts. His successor has not been announced.

Portland June 23 The former Alaska Coating cannery Memnon of Astoria long rumored sunk in World War II is still carrying cargo. Wartime skippers say Memnon survived the war like the Empire Moulton and now sails between Liverpool and the Mediterranean on the Preston.
