Slip from logs boys lose lives in Seattle and Yakima

Two nine year old Seattle boys Arthur Stevenson and Leon Wallace Shores drowned in separate water accidents, one in Seattle and the other below Hymping Lake Dam in Yakima County. Emanuel Johnson, 74, of Mercer Island, died from injuries after stepping into the path of a car driven by Frank Atkins, a football player.

San Francisco Quake Jolts City and Surrounding Area

A moderate un dulatory quake lasting about four minutes struck San Francisco at 3 29 pm PST. Damage was limited to a few broken windows and dishes knocked from shelves. Felt to Monterey Bay 90 miles away, the quake arose from the San Andreas fault.

Burglary In Reverse

CHICAGO June 23 The owner of a liquor store asked police to find the night watchman who broke out of the establishment. He hired the man to stay locked in from 2 a.m. to 11 a.m. but the watchman escaped by chopping a hole in the front door and took $500 in cash and merchandise. Mr and Mrs Armand Duncan of Triangle Cleaners left on a brief business trip to Seattle returning in a week. Registered at the Baranof from Hoonah to Frank Shotter.

Tanker Explodes in Wilmington Docks Fire Kills Many

A massive blast on the 11,083 ton tanker Murkay near Los Angeles Harbor killed at least two and possibly up to 14 crew. The fire, fed by 2.94 million gallons of fuel, burned for hours, as 12 men were reported missing and around 30 injured. Investigators sought cause while Keystone Shipping faced negligence claims.
