Washington freshmen captured the national collegiate rowing championship on the Hudson in a rain soaked race. The Seattle eight led by half a mile and finished three lengths ahead of California, Navy, Columbia, and Syracuse, with a time of 10:29. Conviction of Harry Degroot Reversed in Alaska Case

The second degree murder conviction of Harry Degroot for the killing of ADE Hansen in Chichagof Alaska was reversed by the Court of Appeals for errors in jury instructions on self defense. Degroot, 48, was originally sentenced to 20 years and now faces retrial in Alaska after the appellate ruling. Degroot contended his life and his wife Josephine Hansen were threatened. he shot Hansen as he departed the Wa Wa power boat near Chichagof. Degroot is detained at McNeil Island awaiting retrial.
